Morris called the group a “radicalized organization” that backs abortion and promotes the “homosexual lifestyle.” Of the 50 role models that Girl Scouts study, Morris argued that “only three have a briefly mentioned religious background; all the rest are feminists, lesbians or communists.”

There's no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

"Prejudice is extremely complex and multifaceted, making it critical that any factors contributing to bias are uncovered and understood," he said.

Roach said the teachers were attempting to incorporate social studies into math problems.

Christopher Braxton told ABC News affiliate WSB-TV in Atlanta that he couldn't believe the assignment his 8-year-old son brought home from of Beaver Ridge Elementary school in Norcross.

"It kind of blew me away," Braxton said. "Do you see what I see? Do you really see what I see? He's not answering this question."

The question read, "Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?"

Another math problem read, "If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?"

Does this sweater make me look fat? No the fact that you are fat makes you look fat, the sweater just makes you look purple.

A storm of controversy has been brewing in the US. Actually, it’s probably more accurate to say the storm has been dipped in oil and deep fried. Twice.

At the centre of the controversy is a series of ads aimed at tackling the growing obesity crisis in American children.

In one of the ads (above) a young girl stares forlornly into the camera and says: “I don’t like going to school because all the other kids pick on me. It hurts my feelings.”

Another opens with the statistic that 75 per cent of parents of overweight children ignore the problem growing before their very eyes. It’s followed by a scene in which an obese boy sits facing his equally obese mother and asks, “Mum, why am I fat?”. The silence that follows his question is deafening.

Murdered Gold Coast singer Tony Williams, who once boasted he put the word sex in his band Sex 'N' Chocolate, had hundreds of lovers, many of them nurses with whom he worked, police sources have said.

Williams was found dead in his Mermaid Waters home on Christmas Eve. He had been bashed over the head with a blunt weapon.

The discovery of his body prompted police to issue an appeal for any women who had a relationship with him, however short, to come forward.

Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson said the 38-year-old, New Zealand-born father-of-two was known to be a ladies' man.

Jacob French has just started walking across Australia — from Perth to Sydney (4100km) — in a Stormtrooper outfit to raise money for the Starlight Foundation.

Jacob hopes to raise money by averaging about 40km a day for five days a week (which means he’ll probably get to Sydney around half a year from now).

"Starting in July 2011 I aim to walk from Perth (Western Australia) to Sydney (New South Wales). Over the course of the trek I will cross 4 states and cover approximately 5000km’s in modified stormtrooper armour. The plan for now is to push a lightweight buggy with needed supplies an average distance of 35-40km’s for 5 days a week until the trek is complete.

I am a member of the worldwide “501st Legion”, a volunteer organisation that wears quality star wars outfits for Star Wars related events and as a means to contribute to their local communities through charity work."

LONDON (AP) — Olympic fencer and movie sword master Bob Anderson appeared in some of film's most famous dueling scenes — though few viewers knew it.

Anderson, who has died at age 89, donned Darth Vader's black helmet and fought light saber battles in two of the three original "Star Wars" films, "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."

Darth Vader has died. The guy who did the sword fighting. The rest is just posing menacingly really, imho. Bob Anderson was a deadset legend.

Aussie comedian Tim Minchin has become embroiled in a Christmas controversy in the UK with a song that compares Jesus to Woody Allen.

The UK-born but Perth-raised comic penned what he described as a "silly, harmless, and quite cute" tune, in which he compared Jesus to the Jewish actor and director, the Daily Mail reports.

The Jonathan Ross Show, which was recorded on Tuesday was due to be aired tonight (UK time).

However, the song has now been cut from the show after it was sent to the ITV network's director of television Peter Fincham.

NEW YORK (AP) — A woman was killed in a freak elevator mishap Wednesday at a Madison Avenue office building, police and fire officials said.

The accident happened at around 10 a.m. in a 26-story office tower near Grand Central Terminal that has been the longtime home of advertising agency Y&R, formerly known as Young & Rubicam.

Officials said the woman was stepping onto the elevator on the first floor when either her foot or leg became caught in the closing doors. The car then rose abruptly, dragging her body into the shaft and killing her, officials said.

If you’re going to the trouble of getting yourself a set of Stormtrooper armour , it might as well be practical right? So instead of flimsy moulded plastic, these suits are made from genuine leather protecting motorcyclists from road rash.

Interestingly enough, the grade-A cowhide leather is moulded just like the plastic typically used for Stormtrooper armour, ensuring that all of the angular detailing on the torso, midsection and legs are perfectly replicated. The various components are adjustable too, allowing the suit to be customised to different body fits, while necessary details like a front zipper have been cleverly hidden to help sell the effect.

A bizarre hair-cutting case in America's secretive Amish community has exposed an alleged tyrant accused of beating up those who stray, locking others up in his chicken coop, and taking sexual advantage of married women.

The leader of a breakaway Amish group, Samuel Mullet, and six other men have been charged with committing and conspiring to commit religious hate crimes.

Authorities raided the group's compound in eastern Ohio on Wednesday (today AEST) and arrested Mullet, 66, along with his sons Johnny, Daniel and Lester, his son-in-law Emanuel Schrock, and followers Levi and Eli Miller.

Several members of the group carried out the attacks in September, October and November by forcefully cutting the beards and hair of Amish men and women and then taking photos of them, authorities said.

The Sheriff added: "Sam Mullet is evil."

A new Facebook craze where teenagers take near-naked photos of themselves has cyber-safety experts horrified.

The Sneaky Hat trend has been branded a ''paedophile's paradise'' and involves mostly young people posing in nothing but a hat covering their genitals, the Herald Sun reported.

Countless Facebook pages and other sites, open for anyone to see, have sprung up showing male and female teens in provocative poses after reportedly originating at a Queensland highschool.

Cyber safety campaigner Susan Mclean said contributors to the fad were not only staining their futures but risking child pornography charges.

''It's no use saying its just fun, it's harmless fun, the consequences can be quite severe,” she said.

In mankind's seemingly endless strive to become more robot than human, scientists at the University of Washington in Seattle have taken a big step forward — giving rabbits a Terminator-esque vision enhancement. Using advanced contact lens technology, researchers have put small pixel displays into the eyes of bunnies in order to test the feasibility of future use in humans.

The first wireless pixel displays tested on the rabbits look a lot like ordinary contact lenses, but with a small ring around the edge. A tiny illuminated section in the center of the device is activated by a radio transmitter, causing the spot to light up. In testing, the display sprung to life at a distance of 3 feet from the signal source when the lens was sitting freely, but required a distance of just 2 centimeters to activate when placed in the animal's eye.

Women who play games have more sex. That’s one of the results of a survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of GameHouse polled over 2,000 adults in the US.

They found that 55 percent of online gamers are women. Online games, for the purposes of this survey, included games on their computer, social networking sites and mobile devices. Better yet, they also have more sex and are more social than those who do not play online games.
